Training & Certification: Air Barrier Contractors

The Air Barrier Association of America training courses provide participants with the required skill sets to deal with all manner of air barrier assemblies. In addition, employing a certified installer and a trained quality assurance program administrator are requirements for all ABAA accredited contractors. Benefits of installer training include:

Courses Available from ABAA for Air Barrier Contractors

Quality Assurance Program Administrator Training Course

The Quality Assurance Program Administrator course is a 3 hour course generally held in the evening. Participants study an introduction to air barriers, materials versus systems, building code requirements, site installation realities and installer testing requirements. The administrator course also delivers an overview of the ABAA Quality Assurance Program, contractor and installer obligations, project reporting as well as related documentation.

Estimator Training

The Estimator Training program provides a solid understanding of how to properly estimate the supply and installation costs for the opaque air barrier assembly. A number of air barrier products will be reviewed in conjunction with labor requirements for each type of product. A review of critical details of the air barrier assembly will be reviewed, along with items that may impede the proper installation of the air barrier such as environmental factors, substrate conditions and other external forces on a construction site.

Supervisor Training

The Supervisor Training program has been designed to provide those that oversee, but do not actually install the air barrier assembly materials. This program will review building science considerations, typical air barrier details, quality control procedures, properties and limitations of various air barrier materials. The sequence of construction will be reviewed along with the external factors that may affect the overall performance of the air barrier assembly.
