Training & Certification: Design Professionals

ABAA offers a series of AIA accredited courses designed to offer continuing education to architects, engineers, building consultants and other industry members on air barrier considerations ranging from introductory seminars to advanced details and case studies entitled ABAA University. Additionally, ABAA provides an approved list of presenters, each an expert in air barriers in their respective fields:

AB100 - Introduction to Air Barriers
(Interaction of Moisture, Air and Heat Flow in Commercial Buildings 101 +
Air Barriers 102)

Study of the three physical processes by which heat flows within a building, identify moisture movement mechanisms in exterior wall systems, review and relate air movement processes within the building enclosure.

Review and understand the function of an air barrier, identify 4 key requirements to an air barrier assembly, review of ASTM test procedures for materials and assemblies.

Prerequisites: None

Define various air barrier materials, components, assemblies and systems, review minimum requirements for air barriers, identify various groups of air barrier materials, understand typical performance limitations and applications of the various types of air barriers, know why proper installation of air barriers is key to the performance of the assembly.

Prerequisites: AB100 or consent of instructor

Prerequisites: AB100 and AB200 or consent of instructor
