Who We are and What We Do
The Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) is the leading authority on building enclosure systems, dedicated to promoting their benefits, educating the public, and advancing a professional air barrier trade nationwide. Through technical documents, expert guidance, and rigorous certification programs, ABAA ensures industry excellence and compliance with evolving standards. With webinars, a vast resource library, and networking events, ABAA fosters collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning to shape the future of energy efficient, airtight buildings.

ABAA is the national voice of the air barrier industry and has raised the level of quality in the industry through a Quality Assurance Program and offers premier training, certification, product evaluations, contractor accreditation and site quality control audits. ABAA’s 2026 achievements highlight our continued commitment to education, quality assurance, and industry leadership. As we move into 2027, we are setting bold goals to expand opportunities for members, influence codes and standards, and further strengthen the building enclosure community.
2026 Achievements
Corporate membership reached a record 760 members as of September 1, 2025.
Record Membership
On track to provide FREE education to more than 22,000 individuals through webinars and face-to-face symposiums.
Expanding Education
Published new Roof-to-Wall construction details, supported by educational sessions to strengthen understanding and application.
Roof-to-Wall Resources
Developed new Division 1 specifications addressing building enclosure performance and whole-building airtightness testing.
Advancing Specifications
Approximately 120 committee meetings advanced technical, education, research, quality, and member-focused initiatives.
Collaboration in Action
ABAA’s newly accreditd standards development organization, ASI, published its first standard.

Innovating Testing Methods
Continue research with Oak Ridge National Labs (ORNL) and the University of new Mexico using cameras to identify air leakeage locations and advance water intrusion studies.
Drive Code Advancement
Strengthen advocacy efforts for air barriers, water resistive barriers, and whole building airtightness testing in building codes.
Digital Transformation
Launch a new Association Management Software with an enhanced members-only dashboard, allowing more access for all member employoees and expanded members-only content.
Advance Industry Standards
Publish additional standards and test methods through ABAA’s accredited standards development organization.
Expand Education and Learning
Increase educational opportunities for architects and construction professionals while expanding member-specific learning for continued professional development.
Increase QAP Impact
Continue and expand promotion of ABAA’s Quality Assurance Program to drive more projects to accredited contractors and ensure ABAA evaluated materials are specified in contract documents.
Grow Technical Resources
Continue publishing best practices, installation tips, and technical guidance, and increase study resources for preparing for the Certified Air Barrier Specialist (CABS) program.

Our History
Founded over two decades ago, the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) began with a group of professionals establishing field installation standards, which evolved into the Quality Assurance Program and later expanded into comprehensive certification programs supporting the entire building process.
