ABAA Procrastinator’s Day Speaker Bios

Anthony Santocono has been in service to the Kawneer Company for almost 35 yrs. In 2007 he was offered the position for Field Investigation Engineer. This position takes him to many project sites around the USA and Canada to provide forensic and investigative services of Kawneer product performance which includes; Curtain Walls, Windows, Storefronts, Entrances and Skylights. He also trains the Kawneer Customer base on installation and fabrication of Kawneer Systems.

Hannah McCabe smiling for the cameraAndrea Wagner Watts is the Building Science Education manager for GAF, engaging with industry professionals to provide guidance, technical support and education for roof and wall assemblies. Andrea has more than 15 years of experience in the construction industry, successfully developing multiple sealants and air/water barrier system solutions and doing building science research. She is always working to improve the overall performance of the building enclosures through application innovation, research and industry knowledge sharing. Andrea has published on building science, assembly interfaces, durability and resilience and is the holder of multiple patents. She serves as an executive board member of ABAA, is the co-chair of their Technical Committee and chairs the ASTM E06 Task Group on air barriers.

blondeMeagan Elfert, CDT, MBA, CBS, is the Vice President for York Flashings and has been part of the York team for nine years. She oversees and manages York’s sales team across all regions of the USA. Meagan gives presentations on flashing and transition compatibility, sustainability, and performance to the AEC community across the country. She also provides educational sessions for contractors and performs job site visits to bring installers the latest technology and best flashing practices.

Meagan is currently active in the local Building Enclosure Council Research Triangle chapter of North Carolina and serves on the sponsorship committee.  She is also part of the IIBEC Carolinas Chapter and serves on the membership committee.

In May 2023, Meagan graduated with an MBA from Colorado State University.

Melissa I. Payne focuses on offering building enclosure third-party services. She founded Midwest Enclosure Consulting, September 2022, to offer owners, design, and construction teams with expertise in building science, building envelope solutions, forensic investigations, as well as building performance assessments and construction onsite inspections.

Ms. Payne joined Tremco CPG Inc. November 1, 2018, as a Construction Management Specialist. She then managed the Enclosure System Solutions Team starting in February 2021, and administered the MyTEAM Leak-Free Warranty Processes and Services till April 25, 2023, at which time the company decided these services would no longer be offered under Tremco CPG, Inc.

Prior to joining Tremco, she provided building enclosure commissioning and consulting service and conducted forensic investigations on a multitude of projects while at Miller Engineering, P.C. Prior to developing and heading the building enclosure division at Miller, she served as the Owner’s Representative on both capital and non-cap construction and restoration projects for City Utilities of Springfield, Missouri, a municipal utility company.

Ms. Payne possesses a strong foundation in industry standards related to building envelope commissioning processes, commissioning authority, building science, construction observation, performance testing, project management, and general construction of building envelope systems including: institutional, schools, higher education, government, healthcare, hospitality, and industrial projects. Her owner representative, third-party consulting experience, forensic work, commissioning provider background, and manufacturer internal consultant involvement gives her an all-enveloping perspective of the design and construction industry.

Adam brings 16 years of engineering experience focusing on building science and the building enclosure construction industry. Discipline expertise includes building enclosure consulting and commissioning services for new and existing construction, in addition to forensic investigations to determine root cause of building performance issues. He also brings industry leading expertise in large building whole building airtightness testing, which is at the forefront of high-performance building construction. Adam continues to work on projects across the United States and abroad providing professional building enclosure consultation in both the residential and commercial space for all types of construction, ranging from multi-family wood/timber framed buildings to high performance institutional/healthcare facilities to high-rise construction. Through this experience, Adam brings a unique approach to building enclosure consulting and testing, concentrating on enclosure interface coordination in design and construction phases of the project that overlays a holistic approach, critical to achieving high performance building construction; the goal to help ensure all the materials, systems, and assemblies are properly connected to provide continuous environmental control. His extensive testing knowledge allows him to be deliberate and methodical in his approach to interweaving functional testing to verify performance.

Adam is also active in many industry associations including Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA), Passive House Institute US (PHIUS), Construction Owners Association of America (COAA), United States Green Building Council (USGBC), etc. and has co-authored numerous technical papers, guidelines and standards; fundamental to an industry leading professional.

Pam has over 30 years in investigation, testing, survey design, construction observation, construction contract administration and enclosure commissioning of new and existing building enclosure projects with expertise in exterior walls. She is a building enclosure consultant for building owners, architects and contractors in a variety of sectors. Pam is a Construction Document Technologist, Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), and Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) from Construction Specifications Institute (CSI); Building Enclosure Commissioning Process Provider (BECxP) and Accredited Commissioning Authority + Building Enclosure (CxA+BE) from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Certified Air Barrier Specialist (CABS), ABAA trained under the the Whole Building Airtightness Training Program and ABAA Licensed Field Auditor and Certified Speaker with Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA).

Benjamin Meyer, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP is the Building Enclosure Business Director at Siplast. Previous experience includes: enclosure consultant principal, technical management for enclosure products, commercial design, real estate development and construction management on a range of projects that included residential, educational, offices, and DuPont industrial projects. Industry positions include: Voting Member of the ASHRAE 90.1 Envelope and Project Committees, LEED Technical Committee member, past Technical Advisor of the LEED Materials (MR) TAG, and Director of the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA). Mr. Meyer has MBA, B.S., and M.Arch degrees from the University of Cincinnati.

Herman Lopez is the Building Enclosure Sales Manager for Siplast. His previous experience includes National Commercial and Multifamily Account Manager for DuPont Building Performance Solutions and Director of Specifications for Tamlyn Products.  Herman has over 25 years of experience selling building enclosure products and other construction-related materials used in the residential, multi-family, and commercial construction industries.

Corey Zussman | Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA)Corey is a registered Architect in several states, practicing for more than 30 years. He specializes in building envelope, restoration, preservation, life safety, and interior finishes. Corey is currently the Director of Quality Assurance for Pepper Construction Company in Chicago, where he has promoted a formal quality program for more than seven years and works on 50-75 projects a year, conducting constructability reviews, pre-installation meetings, comprehensive envelope meetings, and construction observations, in addition to providing educational opportunities throughout the industry. Corey has produced more than 150 “lessons learned” papers about building envelope and life safety concerns to proactively address issues during design review, pre-construction, and construction. He maintains an extensive database of quality metrics gathered on more than 1,000 buildings and $3 billion worth of work and developed a quality app for mobile devices which houses the lessons learned papers and allows for easy access and construction verification in the field.

Ryan Dalgleish has been involved in the building enclosure and building performance areas of construction in both the commercial and residential sectors for over 20 years. He acts in the position of Chief Operating Officer for the Air Barrier Association of America. Ryan is actively involved in research, training development and delivery, certification management and helping industries increase their professionalism. He obtained credentials in Adult Education, Leadership and Organizational Excellence from the University of Manitoba and has been mentored and trained by some of the best building scientist’s in the world. Ryan is a certified Net Zero building instructor, teaches master builder courses to builders across the country and is a frequent speaker at various technical presentations dealing with the building enclosure to various building official associations, city departments, building enclosure councils and chapters of the American Institute of Architects, Construction Specifications Institute and a number of local home builder associations.

Scott D. Wood is the Senior Building Scientist at VaproShield, providing product QA/QC and investigations/testing of material properties. As a building scientist he provides technical support for the company’s representatives, clients and assists in the development of product literature and presentations.

Scott is President of SWA Consulting. As an ITC certified Level III Thermographer with decades of experience performing condition monitoring and building applications of thermography. He has many publications in areas of both thermography and building science. Mr. Wood provides investigations, consulting, presentations and training in Building Science Thermography. Since his creation of the course in 2003 he provides the only 32 hour Building Science Thermography class for Level I and Level II that provides instruction in the use of infrared thermography in building applications.

He is involved in many organizations regarding thermography and building science including; a founding member, the Director of Building Science and treasurer of the International Association of Certified Thermographers (IACT), active voting member for ASTM International C16 and C6 committees.

Stephen Shanks is an experienced building scientist and commissioning provider with over 40 years of expertise in studying the performance of structures. Specializing in Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx), Air Barriers, and Whole Building Airtightness Testing (WBAT), he offers consulting services that integrate theory and practice.

Mr. Shanks provides valuable insights on various aspects of building performance within the built environment, including new and existing construction, building enclosures, historic restoration, and construction failures, in addition to, serving as an expert witness.

Currently holding leadership positions in industry organizations such as the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) and the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA), Mr. Shanks actively contributes to the development of standards and codes in collaboration with organizations like ASHRAE and ASTM.

Stephen Shanks is a highly respected professional in the field of building science. With extensive experience and active involvement, he is a valued partner for matters related to building performance, energy efficiency, and construction practices.
