Air and Water-Resistive Barrier Assemblies which have completed the ABAA Evaluation Process

The air and water-restive barrier materials listing has been developed as many of the air barrier materials available can also provide a water-restive barrier function.  The listing requirements use the air and water-restive barrier material specifications published by ABAA.  ABAA separately lists material requirements for air barrier materials and for water-restive barrier materials.  Those two material functions may have different material requirements which may not be the same as the material requirements as when the two functions are combined.  If the intended use of the material is to provide both functions, air barrier and water restive barrier, then the materials listed in this section would be appropriate.

Air and Water-Resistive Barrier Assemblies

Air and Water-Resistive barrier assemblies are divided into building assemblies for walls, roofs and foundations.  These broad heading, in some cases, are then sub-divided into specific types of walls, roofs and foundations.  Air and Water-Resistive barrier assemblies are made up of air and water-resistive barrier materials and connected with air and water-resistive barrier accessories.

Wall Assembly Evaluation – Air Barrier

ABAA has set a maximum air leakage rate for wall air barrier assemblies as being 0.04 CFM/ft2 at a pressure difference of 1.57 lb./ft[0.20 L/(s·m2) at a pressure difference of 75 Pa] when tested in accordance with ASTM E 2357 Standard Test Method for Determining Air Leakage of Air Barrier Assemblies.

Scope of Evaluation

ABAA evaluations establish that the assembly tested passed a specified test.  Such evaluation does not constitute a product warranty and provides no prediction of useful life or future performance.
