The Insurance Guy’s Top 5 Concerns with the Building Enclosure

June 2, 2022 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EDT

Issues in the construction of building enclosures cost the United States billions of dollars annually in installer rework, construction defect claims, manufacturers donating products, and construction managers having to go back to ensure the project Now performs as designed. This presentation will discuss the top five issues regarding building enclosures, as seen from the eyes of a former quality director, insurance claims, and current industry trends.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Acquire knowledge in critical aspects of design, based on building science principles, by using sample details for continuity, redundancy, and certain code requirements of the air barrier system.
  2. Plan successful performance mock-up and site testing program to verify continuity, compatibility and sequence of construction by review of sample mock-ups and test methods that can be applied to both quantify performance and provide a learning tool for the construction team.
  3. Describe the process for successful pre-construction and pre-installation meetings.
  4. Explain the various test methods for installation verification for both air and water performance by reviewing ASTM and AAMA test standards and how they are conducted and when they should be conducted through examples and photos.
