Waterproofing Used as the Air Barrier on the Other Sides of the Building Enclosure

The presentation will locate the portions of the continuous air barrier that are not part of the above grade walls, roofing or fenestrations.   It will provide a basic overview of below grade and elevated deck waterproofing systems, their installation challenges and performance testing techniques.   Several critical transitions to surrounding systems will be identified and details reviewed.

John Posenecker
Terracon Consultants, Inc.

 

Mr. Posenecker joined Terracon in March of 2015 and is a registered mechanical engineer. He is a Board Member and Technical Committee Co-Chair for the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) and is on the Building Enclosure Council (BEC) National Board. His experience includes the design, construction, testing and forensic investigation of building envelope systems. Mr. Posenecker has participated in a wide variety of projects associated with enclosures that include containment systems for commercial nuclear power plants; noise control systems for commercial and institutional projects; and waterproofing systems for wide variety of commercial high-rise and low-rise buildings.
